Gorey Credit Union is celebrating fifty proud years of service
GOREY Credit Union is celebrating fifty proud years of service to the community. In that time it has grown, just like the town it serves, to play an important role in the wider district, and it now offers an ever-expanding range of services.
It’s been a year of celebration. Gorey Credit Union was honoured to be selected to lead the Gorey St Patrick’s Day Parade as Grand Marshal, and the annual dinner dance in April was very well attended.
On Saturday, July 30, Gorey Credit Union will sponsor the family fun day in Gorey Town Park as part of the Market House Festival. Gorey CU will have a marquee on site offering information on services, and handing out a few goodies. The members’ car draw will also be done live on stage on the day.
A 50th Anniversary Celebration Committee was set up to organise the year’s events. It included: Tom Fortune (chairman); Thomas Fitzpatrick; Andrew Cullen; Peter Finn; Joe Kinsella; Enda O’Connor; and Tom Brennan. They arranged the dinner dance and invited along the four surviving founding members: Stan Hempenstall; Pat Doyle; Joe Sheehan; and Tony Woulfe. These four were also appointed as Grand Marshals for the parade.
The committee also arranged presenta- tions of commemorative Galway glass vases to the four surviving founders, and other key people, including existing staff and board members and board oversight committee members. An ecumenical service will be held in September and some prize draws are planned.
Alongside the festivities, the good work continues. In the coming months, Gorey Credit Union will relaunch its website www.goreycreditunion.com and a mobile/ tablet app which will allow customers online access 24-hours a day, seven days a week, as well as online banking from their Choice account. Gorey Credit Union will also soon introduce outgoing direct debits, and in time will launch a debit card.
