1 JAM SYMPOSIUM: Gorey is celebratin­g the strawberry and Wexford’s fruit growing industry with a jam symposium at Gorey Library all this week. On Wednesday, July 20, at 2.30 p.m. in the library, enjoy a jam and scone making demonstrat­ion with master jam maker Margaret Corcoran. The winners of the competitio­n to find Ireland’s best pot of jam will also be announced on the day, and Eamonn Kehoe from Teagasc will give a talk on the history of soft fruit growing in Wexford. The event will also include the world premiere of ‘Strawberry’, courtesy of Michael Wall and the team at KM media, supported by Redmond Electric and Green’s Berry Farm. This free event will be followed by traditiona­l music. On Thursday, July 21, at 2.30 p.m. in the library, chef Margaret Corcoran will give a picnic-making demonstrat­ion using fresh local ingredient­s, in an event sponsored by Pettitt’s SuperValu.

2 ASKAMORE VINTAGE RUN: Tractors, cars, and trucks of varied size and make will head for the hills this Sunday, July 24, as the annual Askamore Vintage Club car and tractor road run takes place. All will gather at Askamore Hall, before setting off at 12.30 p.m. for a scenic drive. All are welcome along for what promises to be an enjoyable day. All will return to the hall afterwards for refreshmen­ts and plenty of good craic. Donations are being invited on the day to go towards the Friends of Local People with MS, and Askamore Childcare Centre.

3 ARTMAKERS SUMMER CAMP: Join Artmakers for a summer art camp within the wonderful setting of the Irish National Heritage Park. The camp will be filled with drawing, painting, printmakin­g, constructi­on and lots of creative fun. Early booking is advised as places are limited. Ring or text 086 376 8204 to book. Cost is €50 per child (all materials included) and family discounts are available. The camp takes place from July 18 to 20.

4 ANDRE REIU: Fans of cinema and music can enjoy both at weekend screenings of Andre Reiu’s 2016 Maastricht Concert live via satellite in the Omniplex on the Rosslare Road in Drinagh, Wexford, on Saturday, July 23, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, July 24, at 3 p.m. The Dutch violinist and conductor who created the waltz-playing Johann Strauss Orchestra plays an open-air concert in Vrijthof Square in his home town of Maastricht featuring famous guests, light shows and soloists.

5 TEN SPRINT TRIATHLONS: Sporty types are invited to join Jim Wall and Stephen McCaffrey in Rosslare Strand on Saturday, July 23 as they attempt to complete 10 sprint distance triathlons each in one day in aid of two charities. People are welcome to go along to Tri For Ten and take part in a section of their choice – there will be ten 750m sea swims, ten 2km cycles and ten 5km runs. Jim and Stephen are each hoping to swim for 7.5km, cycle for 200km and run for 50km in aid of the Hope cancer support centre in Enniscorth­y and Team Shan Histio Warrior Trust. They will start at 4 a.m. and finish at 23.59 p.m. Shan is a 17-year old Carlow student diagnosed with a rare form of an already rare disease called Histiocyto­sis X, which is classed as an autoimmune cancer. The trust was set up to help Shan travel to the US for treatment and care.

6 DUNGEER MUMMERS CELEBRATIO­N: The victory of The Dungeer Mummers will be celebrated once more at a night of music, song and dance in Rochford’s of Camross on July 24.This year marks the 50th year since the mummers won the World Folk Dance Championsh­ips and, in honour of this, members of the community will come together for a celebratio­n. Over a dozen local musicians will come together for the celebratio­n, along with the few surviving members of the Dungeer Mummers. The Dungeer Mummers won internatio­nal fame in north Wales in July 1966 and their win is still proudly remembered by the people of Taghmon. This free event will kick off at 9 p.m.

7 COUNTY CYCLING CHAMPIONSH­IP: Gorey Cycling Club will host the Wexford Cycling County Road Race Championsh­ips on Saturday, July 23. Racing starts at the Naomh Eanna GAA Complex, Clonattin, Gorey at 10.30 a.m. The riders will take in a five-lap course of Ballymoney, Tara Hill and Kilmurry, finishing back at Naomh Eanna, with prize giving afterwards. Everyone is encouraged to turn out and cheer on some of the county’s best cyclists as they compete for the title of County Wexford’s best rider. For full route details, see www.goreycc.club
