Support sought for football record bid

THE WEXFORD Ladies’ Gaelic Football Association members are planning a world record attempt in Páirc Charman on Bank Holiday Monday, August 1, and they are appealing to all affiliated clubs for support.

The bid to have the most players taking part in a Gaelic football exhibition match will cost each participant €10, and they must play for at least ten minutes.

Each club or team will be given a time to be at the venue, and the organisers feel that they should be able to send at least 20 players apiece from age ten and over: ladies, gentlemen, boys and girls - all are welcome.

Clubs must have at least one mentor with each group of 15, and some suggestions have been put forward in a bid to unearth some novel teams.

For example, there could be three generations on the pitch at the same time, or perhaps 15 from the one family.

How about a team from three counties - invite cousins from Wicklow, Carlow etc. – or a team of 15 with beards.

Clubs can make it a day out for their under-age teams, as side attractions will include a bouncy castle, barbeque, bottle stall, golf ball race, raffle, face painting, teas and coffees, shop, ice-cream and more.

Some celebrities will also be participating in the afternoon, and the overall target is at least 1,000 players. All funds raised will go directly towards the promotion of ladies’ football in Wexford.
