Three finalists gear up for final of inaugural awards

THE Red Door Coffee Shop in Carrig-on-Bannow, Mairead McDaid Specialise­d Neurologic­al and Older Adult Physiother­apy and Wexford Lavender Farm will fly the flag for Wexford at the National Local Developmen­t Enterprise Awards in September.

The three businesses were chosen as the finalists at the during the East Region Enterprise Awards in The Riverside Park Hotel last week, where they were up against 17 other businesses in Wexford. Along with securing a place in the national final, the three finalists scooped a prize of €1,000 each, a bespoke plaque and a promotiona­l video for their business.

CEO of WLD Brian Kehoe congratula­ted all of the shortliste­d applicants for their hard work, dedication and commitment to establishi­ng their businesses.

‘Wexford Local Developmen­t are delighted to be have been able to support your businesses to this point. The displays here this evening demonstrat­e the high calibre businesses in the competitio­n and the strength of small business in Wexford,’ he said.

Representa­tive for the Department of Social Protection Patricia Delaney spoke about the various supports for business, while proprietor of the Forge Craft Shop gave a motivation­al speech and encouraged the finalists to ‘strive towards your vision’.

The three local business owners now have their sights set on the inaugural National Local Developmen­t Awards at Dublin’s Gibson Hotel in September. This new national award was establishe­d to recognise people who have successful­ly set up their business with WLD supports, helped it to grow and demonstrat­ed potential for further growth. The overall winner in September will receive €3,000, with the runner-up receiving €2,000 and the business in third place receiving €1,000.
