Stud and 45-acre farm for sale in Crossabeg
A RESIDENTIAL stud farm in Crossabeg is to go under the hammer with a guide price of half a million Euro while a second agricultural holding in Crossabeg is up for sale at €400,000.
The equestrian centre Slaney Lodge has been a noted stud for many years, producing national hunt and flat horses as well as being a pre-training centre for young horses.
The 52 acre property will be auctioned by Sherry Fitzgerald O’ Leary Kinsella at the Riverside Park Hotel in Enniscorthy on Friday, September 9 at 3pm. The guide price is €500,000 reflecting the current price per acre in Wexford.
Also going for auction on the same afternoon in the Riverside Hotel under the hammer of Sherry Fitzgerald Haythorntwaite is a plot of 45 acres in Crossabeg, consisting of three main fields and a concreted farmyard served by three buildings one of which is a slatted shed.
This property enjoys access from the main Enniscorthy/Wexford road at two points and yard access off a minor road at Munroe. The pre-auction guide price is €400,000.
According to auctioneer Adrian Haythorntwaite, the sale represents a rare opportunity to acquire a productive plot of land in a good area of Wexford.
Slaney Stud is located just off the N11, down a short avenue three kilometres south of Oylegate. It incorporates two residential units with 28 stables, loose boxes, outbuildings and a sand arena.
It is laid out in a number of good-sized paddocks with extensive stud rail fencing and is suitable for a small stud farm, tillage or grazing enterprise.
The land has 42 acres in one block under a south facing gra- dient with a number of divisions and stud rail paddocks, all currently in pasture. There are 12 acres of woodland providing a good shelter belt along the north western boundary.
It also has two residential cottages of masonry construction with slate roof and hardwood windows which have been refurbished,. The property was significantly developed by its current owners including substantial stabling, outbuildings and a sand arena.
Auctioneer Frank McGuinness of Sherry Fitzgerald O’Leary Kinsella said Slaney Lodge could obviously continue as an equestrian centre but he also believes it would suit local farmers who might want to convert the land to other farming enterprises particularly tillage.
‘It is a nice and tidy property which could be used for a variety of farming enterprises’, he said.
