Raising a glass to the wonderful Wexford Gin Club

-

Last Friday evening D Bar at Templeshannon Enniscorthy was transformed into a very classy gin joint as hotelier Anton Treacy and his lovely wife Yvonne launched Wexford’s first Gin Club in conjunction with Enniscorthy Chamber of Commerce End of Season Social.

Gin drinkers and non gin drinkers alike were invited to come and sample the stunning array of gin cocktails available and sign up to become members of the Wexford Gin Club.

Gin Club has 1920s Great Gatsby Upper Crust connotations and Anton Treacy explained that gin and tonic was originally created by the British as the quinine in the tonic water helped to prevent malaria in the Colonies and the gin – a very English spirit – was added to the strong tasting tonic to make it that bit more palatable, creating that most pleasurable of drinks that is known and enjoyed by millions today, G&T.

With names like Gun Powder Gin, Monkey 47, Bombay Sapphire, King of Soho, Bulldog, The Botanist and Copperhead there was an exotic element to the event, further enhanced by the accompanying Thai Tapas complimenting all the wonderful flavours of the cocktails. Other gins featured included Hendricks, Blackwater Gin and of course Beefeaters along with perfect mixers and garnishes.

Full marks to Anton Treacy and his D Bar team for the wonderful experience and extensive and delicious menu and to Enniscorthy Chamber and CEO Catriona Murphy for devising the incredible event.

This Wednesday September 7 as part of the Chamber’s Wake Up Wednesdays members are invited to a Mindfulness and Wellbeing session with Clodagh McCumskey at the rather early hour of 7.30am.
