Wexford set to get its first pet crematorium
A BLACKWATER couple are opening a pet crematorium to cater to a growing demand by local animal owners.
Anne and John Wilde expect their Earth 2 Heaven pet crematorium to be open within the next couple of weeks and are just waiting for the sign-off from the Department of Agriculture.
The new crematorium will be located at Creaghford House, in Brownswood, and once it is up and running will cater for people from the south east and beyond wishing to have their pets cremated.
Currently pet cremations in the the region are arranged by local veterinarians and are carried out in Northern Ireland at a cost of between €180 and €300.
Anne says the costs of having pets cremated locally are still being worked out, but will be cheaper than sending them to the north, from where it takes between two and three weeks to have the ashes returned.
‘John’s original business is house sitting and pet care,’ said Anne.
He talked to people about the issues surrounding sending their pets to the north and realised there was a gap in the market.
‘It has taken the past 18 months for us to get planning and to get the business off the ground.
‘ We had to buy a big incinerator from the north and have a quiet room where people can lay their pets out and sit before John takes them for cremation,’ said Anne. ‘We have got licenses from DEFRA and are just waiting for the Department of Agriculture to come down,’ said Anne, who can be reached on 086 3108755.
