Opera, Bublé and the RSC in live shows for cinema

IT’S a busy month for once off shows in Movies@Gorey.

A live recording of Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour’s 2016 production of Turandot, will be shown on Thursday, September 15 at 8 p.m. This is a story of a death-marked love told with salt in the air, light on the sails and the city skyline in the background.

A darkly comic new take on Brecht and Weill’s raucous The Threepenny Opera will be broadcast live from the National Theatre in London on Thursday, September 22, at 7 p.m. With Rory Kinnear, Rosalie Craig, and Haydn Gwynne, this production is adapted by Simon Stephens.

Michael Bublé – Tour Stop 148 will be shown on Sunday, September 25, at 8 pm. This recording presents a front row seat to the superstar’s sold out To Be Loved Tour which concluded in 2015. Filmed with superb 5.1 surround sound, it showcases many of his biggest hits. It includes behind-thescenes and a 15 minute introducti­on with Michael Bublé exclusive to cinemas.

Opera lovers are in for a treat on Monday, September 26, at 7.15 p.m. with a live broadcast of Bellini’s classic bel canto opera ‘Norma’. This new production for The Royal Opera has a superlativ­e cast of internatio­nally renowned singers.

In another live broadcast on Wednesday, September 28, at 7 p.m. the Royal Shakespear­e Company presents Cymbeline. Melly Still directs Shakespear­e’s rarely performed romance.
