Two Leinster titles won

ADULT HANDBALL

-

WEXFORD collected two Leinster titles in the 60x30 courts last week with the Junior doubles title and the Golden Master B doubles crown being collected by the handballers of the Model county.

The Junior Doubles final was a classic two-hour game of handball as Wexford’s David Kenny and Eugene Kelly battled it out with Joe Cummins and Stephen Quinn from Meath.

The men from the Royal county took the opening set 21-16, but the purple and gold men battled back to take the second set 21-11. With Kenny having recently lost out in the final of the junior singles there was no stopping the talented Castlebridge man this time as he and his fellow club man Kelly were awesome in the third set and took the title 21-10.

Taghmon handball club celebrated more success only a short few months after their reformation as a club and a Leinster title was added last week as Mick Carty and Frank Maddock played fantastic handball to win the Golden Masters B doubles crown. The victims of the Taghmon men were Brendan and Billy Higginbottom from Kildare as the Wexford players triumphed 21-13, 21-20.

In the semi-final of the junior B doubles Sean Nolan and Liam Rossiter were defeated by Robert Farrelly and Cian O’Dalaigh from Dublin.

The metropolitans were 21-13, 21-17 winners but the Wexford pairing who played together for the first time ever this season will certainly be a pairing to watch out for in the future of this competition.
