Mulrankin zips to clear-cut victory

Impressive win for Thomas Byrne’s dog

THE KINGSMILL Messi Unraced Stake got under way on Monday of last week at Enniscorthy Dog Track with four first round heats, and a few notable runs were recorded in heats three and four.

The Thomas Byrne-owned and trained Mulrankin Zip had a nice card, winning both its qualifying trials in good times, and she made no mistake racing from trap five as she came home a clear winner in a good time of 29.18. This March ’15 daughter of Droopys Cain-All At Sea looks a very nice prospect.

The suited and booted syndicate were in full voice in the next heat as their Lazy But Lively, who had also won his two qualifying trials, continued his winning ways, racing home to a fine win in a best of the round 29.15. This fellow is trained by David Morris for the syndicate and a good night was had by all.

Heat two was troublesome but Blade Home led and ran out a snug winner in the end from the running on Ravens Tulip. The winning time was 28.48.

The opening heat saw a very close finish after Kingsmill Stride showed good pace after a poor start to lead down the back.

He looked the likely winner, however, Metric Marwood had other ideas and ran strongly for the line to force a dead heat in a time of 29.78.

The second round will be interesting this week as some of the runners did not get the best of runs and improvements can be expected.

Owner Derek Wilde has been picking off races nicely of late, and in race two his Carrigoe Philjon was a most impressive winner.

Getting out well from the trap four box, he was always in control and ran out an easy winner in a good 29.08.
