Action-packed weekend for motorsports fans

THOUSANDS of motor fans are due in the county over the weekend, when the Wexford Volkswagen Stages Rally takes to the road in what promises to be an action-packed couple of days.

Mechanical scrutiny is due to take place between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Hertz in Ferrybank when the cars will be inspected by Motorsport Ireland appointed scrutineers for safety, compliance, expiry date, fire extinguishers, seats and harnesses.

Suits, helmets, boots and fireproofs will be inspected for standard compliance and expiry dates.

On Friday night, all the competing cars travel across Wexford Bridge to park up on Wexford Quay where they will be arranged in numbered order to leave on Saturday morning.

The Official Start will take place from 9 a.m. to 10.05 a.m. on Sat- urday, when all the competitors’ cars will be introduced as they leave the Quays to ‘Service In’ at Wexford Racecourse - to the first loop of the stages - before returning to Service at the racecourse.

The first competing car is due out at 9.25 a.m. and the last at 10.30 a.m.

The competing cars will be arriving and leaving for around 30 minutes in service between loops of stages.

Often frantic crews repairing damage or replacing parts - within a strict service time window.
