SOCCER NEWS

The under-10s, under-12s and under-14s saw their scheduled games cancelled last weekend due to the rain but the under-16s game versus Enniscorthy town was played in ideal conditions on Saturday afternoon.

They had an early scorcher from Ryan Milling disallowed for off-side but by the interval lead by 2-0. Ryan shimmied right, fooled the keeper, and tidily tapped the ball left for a delightful goal quickly followed by a second. Nathan Huzzar was unlucky not to add three goals before the break and Harry Ellix’s shot to the top corner seemed to be a sure score till the wind drifted it millimeters over the bar. When Harry scored from a header immediately after the resumption and Nathan finally found the net to leave our lads 4-0 ahead, it seemed as if the game was well and truly over. However, Enniscorthy Town capitalised on some slack marking and defensive errors to come back strongly into the game.

They trailed by a singe goal, 4-3 with only a few minutes left and when they were awarded a penalty for hand-ball, it seemed as if the points might be shared. Jack Tyrrell pulled off a great save and cleared the resulting corner to keep our under-16s ahead till the final whistle blew. Ryan Mill- ing was the ‘man-of-the-match’ while Adam Meehan shone in defence. Daire Murphy put in a great performance also.

The Men’s ‘A’ team were at home on Sunday the fourth. taking on neighbours Ferns. They halved the points with a 1-1 draw, the goal coming from Ian Devlin. Their next game which is also a local darby, sees them take on St Joseph’s in Kilmuckridge. The ‘B’ team were also at home, taking maximum points by beating Duncannon by 2-0.

PRIZE WINNER

Barry Turner, an Everton supporter, will be travelling to Old Trafford to see last season’s champions, Leicester City take on a team many believe will be the 2017 champions, as he won the great prize raffled by St Cormac’s on Thursday night last, September 1. The club would like to thank all those who helped organise this fundraiser, those who sold tickets and especially those who purchased tickets for the draw.
