The National Masters Track and Field championsh­ips in Tullamore saw St Joseph’s athletes bring home another great haul of medals.

In the 3km walks, Bríd Lawlor was first O55, and Maggie Helen O’Connor was second O40. John Joe Lawlor was first in the men’s 5km race claiming the gold again this year. In the field events, Mary Breen was third in shot putt, javelin and discus in the O55 age group.

Austin Lee took silver in discus, and bronze in both shot putt and hammer in the senior men’s events. Verena Felon won silver in both shot putt and discus and also finished third in javelin and fourth in the hammer.

The Three Sisters women’s mini marathon in Thomastown saw Maggie Helen O’Connor finish fourth in 48:04 followed by Breda Hennessy 52:13, Alma Barron 52:50 and Tracey Malone 1:02:22. Katie Kinsella ran the 5km race in 30:44

Patrick Bookle finished 13th in the St Pauls AC five mile race in Kilrane in Wexford in an excellent time of 30.45. Sinéad Croke had a great run in the Boston Scientific half marathon in Clonmel in 1:59:36. Congratula­tions to Michael Ryan and Joseph Sinnott who completed the Ironman 70.3 in Dublin in great times of 5:12:15 and 5:48:25 respective­ly.

For anybody not familiar with this savage test of endurance, an Ironman 70.3 consists of a 1.9km swim followed by a 90km cycle, and finishes with a 21.1km half marathon run.

The St Josephs two mile summer series at the Pink Rock has come to an end with an amazing number of 61 people running one or more stages. The fastest time recorded, and a new record for the two mile series was 10:59 set by David Lanigan. The best improver was Nuala Carthy and the award for full attendance went to John Joe Lawlor.

The award for best improved juvenile went to Conor Lanigan. The club league winning team was the team of David Lanigan, Sinead Ryan Croke, Mary Breen and Ciaran Cullen.
