The last weekend in August saw SBR star mountain runner Bernard Fortune take to the hills in Italy for the World Masters Mountain Running Championships.
Making a World Master’s team is a massive accomplishment in itself, but Bernard ran a brilliant race to top it off finishing in 118th place and 27th overall in the Over 45 Age category. Well done and fantastic to see SBR on a World Stage!
On Saturday night, SBR had a strong contingent at the St. Paul’s AC 5 Mile Road Race. Myles Gibbons took 2nd place overall and Belinda Kehoe ran a brilliant race to win the Women’s Over 40 category.
Willie Rossiter continued his return to club racing with another great race, winning the Men’s Over 40 category and Paul Gibbons, Ian McQuillan and Adrian Doyle all ran really well on the night.
Eion Power and Christine Hill represented the club at the Dingle Half Marathon, each running a very good race. Christine had a several minute PB so congratulations to both!
16 members of the club running the Dublin City Marathon are fundraising in aid of two charities - Wexford Hospice Homecare and The Hope Centre Enniscorthy. They had a very successful launch on Wednesday night in the Thatch pub with representatives from both charities attending. This is a very dedicated group and they are hoping to raise significant funds. To get involved in fundraising or to make a donation please contact Pat Crean for sponsorship cards - 086-2590090.
Cross Country training begins in the Stubble Field outside Ferns on Tuesday, September 6th at 7pm. We would like to see as many club members as possible getting ready for the upcoming Wexford Novice, Intermediate and Senior Championships. From Ferns proceed out the Bunclody Rd., take first road to left and then park at the second gate on right.
