KUNG FU, KICK BOXING

-

Three members of the Wexford Kung Fu and Kickboxing Centre will take part in the most prestigious Junior kickboxing event in the world next week.

The W.A.K.O. World Junior kickboxing championships are being held in the City West Arena, Dublin, with an anticipated 50-plus countries represented. W.A.K.O. kickboxing is also known as Olympic kickboxing as it is the only kickboxing body recognised by the International Olympic Committee.

The three Lau Gar-style fighters qualified in the Kickboxing Ireland (the government-recognised body for kickboxing) eliminations earlier in the year. Dale White, Rebecca Rowe and Anna Nolan are all experienced international competitors so hopes are high that medals will be coming home to Wexford.

Dale White has been outstanding in his age group over recent years and he will be hot favourite to take home gold in his last year in the under-age section. He is already current European W.A.K.O. champion (sets competition) and W.K.K.F. double world sparring champion.

Rebecca Rowe has been competing at the highest level in girls’ international kickboxing for many years now and has brought home bronze from W.K.K.F. world championships on four separate occasions. Rebecca is determined to go all the way this year.

Anna Nolan was one of the stars of last year’s W.K.K.F. world championship’s in Florida, taking home gold in the girls’ Under-12 points and continuous sparring. Anna will be hoping to continue her winning form despite stepping up to the tougher Under-14 section this time around.

The club trains in Image Health Studios, Westpoint Business Park, Wexford, where beginners of all ages are always welcome.
