HELEN’S BAY

The inaugural Harvest Moon Team Classic unfortunately had to be cancelled due to incessant rain on Saturday morning.

This event, generously sponsored by A.I.B., will now take place next Saturday, September 10.

Our club matchplays have reached the final stages.

The final of the mixed greensomes saw Trish Hudson and Aidan Colgan tee off against Dolores Hodgins and Liam Mullen in what turned out to be a classic encounter.

Five down after six, it looked like an early defeat was on the cards for Trish and Aidan. But then the putts began to drop for them and standing on the 17th tee, Dolores and Liam’s lead was whittled down to just one up.

The tricky par three was halved and so to the 18th, where Aidan conceded a short putt for a half and the game.

Congratulations to the Champions, Dolores and Liam and well done to the valiant runners up, Trish and Aidan.

The line up in the final of the Gents Greensomes was finalised on Sunday. Maurice Cooper and Ciaran Murphy overcame the challenge of the two Marks, Phillips and O’Donoghue in the first semi-final.

The second semi-final saw the clash of the two favourites, the Codds, John and Martin squaring up to John Sinnott and Buzzer O’Brien.

Following a titanic struggle the Codd’s won the day on the 18th.
