DAD-OF-TWO DARIUS DIES IN N11 CRASH
A 46-year-old Polish man living in Enniscorthy was killed in a crash on the outskirts of Wexford late on Thursday afternoon in the second fatal accident involving a motorcyclist in the county in less than a week.
The accident, in which father-of-two and a Wexford-based member of Vikings Motorcycle Club Darius Kolasa was killed, happened only about 200 yards from the scene of another fatal collision involving a motorcyclist three years ago.
Gardai said Thursday’s accident happened when the northbound motorcycle was in collision with a car in the southbound lane.
Gardaí are still investigating the cause of the accident close to Ballyhogue/Kyle Cross in which ‘lifelong biker’ Darius died. They said a second car stopped short of the accident and was not directly involved in the incident.
Darius, with an address in The Orchard, Enniscorthy, where he lived with his wife Martha, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to University Hospital Waterford where a post mortem was carried out.
The couple have two grown up children, Natalia, aged 24, and Marcin, aged 22.
Darius had been living in Ireland for the 10 years and was most recently worked as a security guard in Wexford for a Dublin-based company.
A Facebook post described Darius as a ‘true gent’.
‘You will be very sadly missed by us all. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and the Vikings MC Club. You made an impact on everyone you met.’
‘He was a great brother, a great friend, a gentle giant. He was a fella who would do anything for anybody. He was very passionate about his motorcycles, a lifetime biker and a genuine all-round good guy,’ said a fellow member of the Vikings based in Wexford.
Darius was also passionate about his football, and supported Polish club Wisla Krakow and more recently Liverpool.
Prayers will be said for Darius at Crosbie’s Funeral Home in Enniscorthy at 11.30 a.m. on Saturday (October 1), followed by a mass at St Aidan’s Cathedral at 12 noon which will be followed by cremation at Mount Jerome.
Three other people involved in the collision, a man and woman, both mid-30s and a young boy were taken to Wexford General Hospital as a precaution. No other injuries were reported.
A Garda Family Liaison Officer has been appointed in this case.
The N11 was closed at Ballyhogue for a period of time to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators reopened late on Thursday night.
Wexford Chief Fire Officer Paul Le’Strange said two appliances and an emergency tender responded to the incident following an emergency call at 4.49 p.m.
‘When we arrived there wasn’t much we could do for the chap.. the scene was made safe and we assisted the gardai. At 10.22 p.m., after the gardai completed their investigations, we were called back to clean up the scene of the accident,’ said Mr Le’Strange.

The fatal accident follows another fatal crash involving a motorcyclist at Campile on Saturday, September 10, when 38-year-old father-of-three Kieran Whitty, from Killesk, Campile, died in a collision with a car a short distance past the village garda station.
