Kathleen passed away in her apartment
A New Ross woman was found dead in her apartment, Wexford Coroner’s Court was told.
Kathleen Redmond, aged 55, of 12 Mount Garrett Lane died of natural causes, according to consultant pathologist Dr. Maurice Murphy who carried out a post mortem examination at Waterford University Hospital.
Garda Margaret Doyle of New Ross Garda Station said she went to Ms. Remond’s apartment at 12 noon on April 17 this year, accompanied by Garda David Ryan. They met Ms. Redmond’s brother-in-law Ger Roche outside.
Mr. Roche told the inquest that Ms. Redmond’s family had become concerned as she had missed her father’s anniversary Mass and had made no contact in over a week.
The gardai went inside and discovered that Kathleen had passed away.
In a statement read out by Superintendent James Doyle, Kathleen’s mother Stasia said she spoke to her daughter over the telephone on Saturday, April 9. She talked about going to the doctor on Monday.
Consultant pathologist Dr. Robert Landers read out a postmortem report written by his colleague Dr. Maurice Murphy who was unable to attend the inquest.
He said death was due to a combination of an enlarged heart with liver disease being a contributory factor. The Coroner Dr. Nixon recommended that the jury return a verdict of natural death.
He joined with the Superintendent and the jury foreman Dan Redmond in extending sympathy to Ms. Redmond’s family.
Superintendent Doyle said he knew Kathleen for 30 years and she was a very decent person who was very good to her family. She was a professional person who had worked in various Government departments in Dail Eireann. He expressed his condolences to her family, especially her mother Stasia.
