Intimate concert at Killegney Church

-

AN intimate concert in Killegney Church hit all the right notes recently. The concert which was held to raise funds for the upkeep of the rural church was a massive success and sold out.

Roy Tector who helped organise the concert said they were delighted with how it went. ‘It went extremely well and there was a full house. The money raised will go towards the upkeep of the church.’

MC on the night was Susan Sands and there was a great show of support from the very musical Sands family with Susan’s daughter Lainey performing The Parting Glass while her other daughter Tiarna performed Danny Boy and Ashokon Farewell on violin. Her third daughter Clare who is a professional singer unfortunately couldn’t perform due to a prior engagement. Lainey also performed Suil A Ruin and joined Seamus Sands on fiddle for Ar Eireann ni Neofainn Ce Hi and the Kerry Polka. She also performed with William Deacon. Danielle Somers who was the last person to be married in Killegney Church also performed on the night playing Ballad Pour Adeline, Litter Bin Lids and Carrigfergus on keyboard while Ann Bates and Robbie Tector performed Fix You on the night.

A choir which had been booked to perform had to cancel at the last minute so local people Danny Morris, Vicky Barron and Judy Deacon all stepped into the breach. Other performances on the night came from Niall Deacon, Susan Sands, Ester Ferrara and Marketa Vrbova.

Roy said this was the first time they had run a concert adding that in excess of €2,000 was raised ‘It was a relaxing evening and the church was lit by candles giving a lovely atmosphere.’
