Rosslare Access Road plans are welcomed

PROPOSED plans for the Rosslare Harbour Access Road received wide praise from the councillors following a short presentation by ARUP Senior Engineer Kieran Malone.

Wexford County Council has engaged Arup Consulting Engineers to complete the design of the proposed N25 access road to Rosslare Harbour Europort. It is approximately 1.8 km in length and includes three roundabouts and a number of junctions.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr Malone said that the scheme will provide many benefits, including removing HGV traffic from Rosslare village and providing more efficient access to and from Rosslare port.

Director of Services Eamonn Hore underlined the need for such an addition, saying that Rosslare is the second largest passenger port in the country.

Mr Malone clarified that drawings will go display on public consultation in County Council buildings. Cllr Ger Carthy queried whether the plans could be brought to Rosslare as some residents are concerned about the project. Mr Hore said that they will commence with written submissions.

Cllr Tony Dempsey welcomed the plan, saying that it is ‘imperative’ that the potential of Rosslare Harbour is maximised, while Cllr George Lawlor also echoed his views saying it is ‘vital’ for the harbour. Cllr Frank Staples, Cllr Michael Sheehan, Cllr Oisin O’ Connell and Cllr. Fionntán Ó’Súilleabháin also voiced their praise about the plans. However, Cllr O’Connell reinforced the views of some others that Iarnród Eireann must work with them in order for it to work.
