Cllr Ireton questions land transfer
CLLR Robbie Ireton questioned the transfer of land to St Aidan’s Diocesan Trust, saying that he wants to know who and what the trust is.
The amended Section 183 notice for the proposed transfer of land at Templeshannon, Enniscorthy was the second item on the agenda for consideration. A memo to the members explained that the 0.153 acres of land in question, which is located outside the existing St Senan’s school boundary wall, is to be transferred to St Aidan’s Diocesan Trust. The original transfer was to the Board of Management of St Senan’s Primary School but the Board of Management have now requested that the transfer be to the Trust.
However, Cllr Ireton was unsure about the move.
‘I want to know what the trust is,’ he said. ‘Why is land being taken from the people of the parish and being handed over to a Diocesan Trust?’
Although Cathaoirleach Cllr Paddy Kavanagh said that the land consists of only ‘a very small strip’, Cllr Ireton sought more detail on the matter.
‘I have no problem transferring the land to the Board of Management for better use of the school. I have a problem giving it to a Diocesan Trust that we know very little about. I think we need clarification before this proceeds,’ he said.
Tony Larkin said that the legal entity that owns the school is the Diocesan Trust and said he would be ‘worried’ if work at the school was to be delayed. Cllr Keith Doyle also said he didn’t wish for the building work to be held up any longer.
The proposal for the land disposal was passed but it was decided amongst the members that more information would be requested regarding Cllr Ireton’s concerns.
