Tributes paid by all to the late Pat Codd – a ‘true gent’
TRIBUTES were paid to former County Councillor and Wexford Cathaoirleach Pat Codd who passed away on Wednesday July 20.
Cllr Malcolm Byrne described him as a ‘ true gent’ saying that he never played politics while in the Chamber. Cllr Tony Dempsey echoed his remarks, saying that it was a privilege to work with Pat over the years.
‘His death is a huge loss to his own family and his political family.’
Pat was described as a ‘gentle giant’ by Cllr George Lawlor, who said that he didn’t have an ounce of badness in him.
‘His passion for politics was only rivalled by his passion for Taghmon,’ he added.
Mayor of Wexford Cllr Frank Staples described Pat as a ‘great friend’.
‘ The longer he went on as a councillor, the more people liked him,’ he said.
County Manager Tom Enright recalled visiting Taghmon with Pat, saying that everyone had time for him.
‘It was like walking around with a celebrity,’ he added. ‘He was a wonderful man.’
Cathaoirleach Cllr Paddy Kavanagh said that Pat was a man who was always about his own place and his own people.
‘All of the staff in county hall really miss him. He got on with everyone,’ he said.
Tributes were also paid to Philomena Sinnott, Tom Doyle, Christina Byrne, Mary Horan and several other members of the Wexford community. Cllr Malcolm Byrne extended his sympathies to the Whitty family in Campile following the ‘ horrific accident’ which took the life of Kieran Whitty. Councillor Barbara Anne Murphy extended her sympathies to those affected by the earthquake in Italy, saying that ‘it could have been any of us’, while she also paid her respects to the Hawe family.
A moment of silence was held to remember the deceased.
