GAA NEWS
On Sunday last, September 18, Monageer-Boolavogue GAA Club played host to Faythe Harriers, Buffer’s Alley and Glynn-Barntown in the annual Tom Daly under-10 blitz. All the teams put on great displays of tough skilful hurling. All the clubs brought along under-nine teams for a competition as well. In the under-10 blitz, our lads eventually triumphed and claimed the beautiful Tom Daly cup while Glynn-Barntown won the under-nine competition. The club would like to thank all those who took part, those who helped on the day and especially the Daly family for their continued support.
GAA LOTTO
There was no luck for anyone on Tuesday, September 13, as no one had picked 4, 10, 24 and 28, the numbers selected in the Monageer-Boolavogue GAA lottery on that night. No one had even three of the numbers so the ‘match three’ prize was also unclaimed. For the next draw which will be held on Tuesday next, the 27th. at 9.30 p.m. in the clubhouse in Monageer, the jackpot has been increased to €7,600. Tickets can be had from all club members and local outlets.
MINISTERS OF THE WORD
The Ministers of the Word on duty next weekend in St Cormac’s are Martina Ivory at the Vigil Mass on Saturday night and Marie Barne at the 11 a.m. Mass in Sunday, September 25. On Saturday evening, September 24, Caroline Farrington is the Eucharistic minister on duty while Kathleen Kehoe will help distrib- ute Holy Communion on Sunday morning.
HELP NEEDED.
Our neighbours in the Bygone Days Storytelling House in Oulart need help in gathering some money together in order to thatch their house. They are holding a night of music, song, stories and general craic in the Riverside Park Hotel in Enniscorthy on September 25, starting at 8 p.m. Tickets cost €10 and there will be a door prize as well.
SOCCER NEWS
On Sunday, September 18, the men’s ‘B’ team were at home to Ballymurn and halved the points on a 1-1 draw. James Gahan grabbed the goal and this gives the team one win, one draw and one defeat from three fixtures.
The previous day, the under-12s boys went to Oylegate and lost by 1-4. Aaron Rochford scored our only goal and the team was unlucky not to salvage a draw – seeing some great shots inch wide.
The under-14s were at home to a very strong Fort Celtic side and looked for a long time as if they might salvage a point from the encounter. The sides were level, 1-1 each for a long time till Celtic’s superior fitness gave them the upper hand and they ran out worthy winners in the end.
The under-16s have two wins from two outings, beating Camolin Celtic by 4-1 in a tough, hard-fought game at home on Saturday afternoon. Our lads were very quick off the mark and were 2-0 ahead after only 10 minutes – Ryan Milling and Nathan Huzzar were the scorers. A goal for Camolin seemed to sap our lads’ confidence for the rest of the half and they had to fight hard in the second half to keep ahead. Near the end, they broke through twice to make sure of the points. The third goal came when Adam Meehan delivered a beautiful pass to Ryan Milling, having intercepted a Camolin attack and Ryan lobbed the keeper to make it 3-1. With only around 100 seconds remaining, Ryan completed his hat-trick.
The under-12 girls also had a great win, beating Gorey Rangers by 7-0. Emerson Doran (4) and Brónagh Kenny (3) were the ladies on target.
BOOK LAUNCH
There was a great crowd in the Fr Murphy Centre on Saturday last September 17, for the launch of a book by the late Michael E. Morrison of Ballintore, Ferns.
Michael, who suffered from Cystic Fibrosis, passed away in July 2014 at the age of 35 and before his death had already published two books. His parents, Breda and Ed, helped by Michael’s Godfather Tony Clarkson, put together a compilation of three of his works, ‘Adam’s Apple’, ‘Faith of Our Fathers’ and ‘Family Matters’ as one volume called ‘The Legacy’ and this was launched at a very enjoyable celebration in lovely sunshine by Billy Walsh who is just back from a very successful Olympics with the Team USA boxers.
