Carmel’s novel is a real page turner at launch
Award winning Wexford author Carmel Harrington is on top of the world after the launch of her fourth novel last week.
The Things I Should Have Told You was launched last Friday night in Wexford Book Centre just 24 hours after its Dublin launch in Dubrary Books on Grafton Street.
The Screen writer said she was overwhelmed by all the support and well wishes she got from everyone over the past couple of days and said both launches had been wonderful. She said that she was delighted with all the support she received from the Wexford Book Centre which had pulled out all the stops for the launch.
‘It went great. It was a really lovely evening. George Lawlor spoke very eloquently as he always does and he was very funny. What made the evening very special as well was that he sang The Green Fields of France which features in the book.
‘I read the extract from the book where the song is mentioned and then George sang which was very special. We hadn’t told anyone we were planning that and what was really lovely was that the whole room joined in the chorus. It was a really warm moment.
‘Maria Nolan of Wexford Literary Festival also spoke and presented me with flowers and the Wayside Players from Blackwater also presented me with flowers which was very unexpected but delightful.
‘I was really spoilt on the night. My publisher Tony Pardue and my agent Tracy Brennan were also there on the night and Tracy had flown in from America to attend the launch. She surprised me with a special announcement saying that The Things I Should Have Told You has already been sold to four countries and will be translated into four different languages. That was a lovely surprise.
‘ These countries had bought the book on the strength of my other novels so it is expected that it will be translated into other languages too.’
Afterwards Carmel’s family and friends went to Freddy’s Bar in Screen for the after party and Carmel said that the staff there had also gone above and beyond to celebrate her success.
‘He really did us proud. The pub was decorated with balloons and it was so special. I really had a wonderful couple of days and it was fabulous to share them with my family and friends.’
