Wexford scores well in guide

SEVERAL County Wexford restaurant­s feature in the newly-released 2017 ViaMicheli­n Guide.

They are La Cote, on Custom House Quay; Greenacres, in Selskar; La Marine, at Kellys, in Rosslare; the Lobster Pot, at Carne; Aldridge Lodge, at Duncannon; The Harvestroo­m, at Dunbrody, and The Duck, in Gorey.

The entry for La Cote says: ‘On the promenade in a historic town, you’ll find this welcoming, personally-run restaurant comprising two homely rooms. Local seafood is at the hart of the good value menu - check the blackbnoar­d for the day’s recommenda­tions. That for Greenacres says: ‘Set over 3 floors, with a bistro, deli, wine store, bakery and art gallery. Wide-ranging menu of classic dishes, with daily fish specials. Amazing choice of wine from around the world, with some sensationa­l vintages in the private salon.’ La Marine: ‘A bistro-style restaurant within a beachfront hotel, with an open-kitchen and a glass-fronted wine cellar. A zinc-topped bar from France takes centre stage, while the menu offers tasty brasserie classics, including plenty of fish dishes.’ The Lobster Pot: ‘Popular pub filled with a characterf­ul array of memorabili­a. Large menus feature tasty, home-style cooking. Fresh seafood dishes are a must-try, with oysters and lobster cooked to order being the specialiti­es. The Harvestroo­m in Dunbrody: ‘Light, spacious, classicall­y styled restaurant in keeping with the Georgian country house hotel in which it is sited; bright rugs and vividly coloured seats add a modern touch. Classic dishes feature produce from their own kitchen garden.’ Aldridge Lodge: ‘ This attractive house is set in a great rural location and run by cheery owners. The constantly evolving menu offers tasty homemade bread and veg from the kitchen garden. The focus is on good value fish and shellfish (the owner’s father is a local fisherman), with some Asian and fusion influences. Homely bedrooms come with hot water bottles and homebaked cookies.’

The Duck: ‘is a smart, rustic bistro.. sit on the wonderful terrace with a glass of wine and dine on unfussy, global cuisine.’
