FROM relaxing light colours, to bold brights, interior trends for 2016 very much depend on your own personal likes and dislikes. Interior design allows individual­s to tailor their home to their own preference­s, and while some of the year’s trends are bolder than others, we’ve picked six of our favourites that can easily be followed without too many risks.

Pastels – Warm, calming pastels have emerged as one of the hottest trends of the year, right up against edgy, bold colours. Pastel paint, furniture and décor are an excellent way to bring calmness to a room. Creamy blues, baby pinks and dove greys mixed together in different materials and textures are an excellent way to make use of this top trend.

Black stainless steel – The popularity of kitchen appliances can change year on year, but for 2016 it’s all about the black, polished and sleek stainless steel appliances. It’s hard to get it wrong with black, and stainless steel is easy to clean too.

Mixed materials in kitchens – It might not sound like a good idea at first, but mis-matching materials and colours in your kitchen can be a great look. There is nothing wrong with mixing it up and adding colour and texture to an allwhite kitchen.

Monochrome – Monochrome is a common trend when it comes to fashion, and such is the popularity of the theme it has reached out as far as interiors now. Whether it’s as simple as black and white furnishing­s, or paint, crockery, tables and chairs – this is an easy trend to follow whether you want to go big or small.

Words & typography – Typography and words have edged their way into modern day interior design. Phrases, solitary letters or words can be dotted around a room on chalkboard­s, paintings or even wood blocks. Typography and words can increase the personalis­ation of your home, and you can work it whatever way you want.
