TRAGIC JAY IS LAID TO REST

JAY BANVILLE, the 28-year-old father-of-three from Raheen who died in tragic circumstan­ces in Waterford earlier this month, was laid to rest on Tuesday.

A large crowd attended the funeral of Jay, pictured right, of Raheenaken­nedy, Raheen, Clonroche, who died on October 8 in University Hospital Waterford after the incident which took place while Jay was on a night out in the city.

The New Street area in Waterford was preserved for a technical examinatio­n that morning and the State Pathologis­t attended the scene.

Jay is survived by his parents Mary and Seamus, stepfather Tom McDoanld; partner Kelly Leonard; children Carly, Cian and Kelsey, who was born in late August; brothers Willie and Aidan; sisters Breda, Siobhan, Marie, Liz and Nicole; and his family, relatives and friends.

Jay reposed at his stepfather Tom McDonald’s residence in Raheenaken­nedy. A motor enthusiast, some of Jay’s friends led the funeral cortège in their vehicles, revving loudly as the cortège approached John Paul’s Church in Raheen on Tuesday. Jay was carried on the final stretch into the church for the Mass.

All of Jay’s family attended the service, which was celebrated by parish priest Fr Jimmy Moynihan. The local choir sang at the Mass.

Jay was laid to rest afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Brazilian man Juraci Da Silva, 35, of John’s Lane Apartments, Waterford city, appeared at Waterford District Court last Monday. Da Silva was charged with assaulting Jay Banville, causing him harm at New Street, Waterford City, on the previous Saturday, assaulting Conor Hogan causing him harm, and in the course of a fight producing in a manner likely unlawfully to intimidate another person any article capable of inflicting serious injury, to wit a knife, at New Street, Waterford City. He is due to appear before Waterford District Court today (Tuesday).
