‘Sale of the year’ for Killanne farm

-

THE sale of a 63 acre residential farm in Killanne, which was bought by local farmers for €950,000 last week, has been described as one of the sales of the year.

Located 2km from Killanne, the Model Farm was once a dairy farm but became a suckler operation for a number of years. In most recent times it has been rented by a dairy farmer.

The original dairy infrastructure is still in place, including the milking parlour, the central roadways and well-fenced paddocks.

Most of the farm, 55.5ac, is in one block with a 7.5 acre piece situated across the road from the main holding with both sides enjoying plenty of road frontage.

Auctioneer David Quinn said: ‘It was one of the sales of the year. The farm was bought by an auctioneer for a trust comprising a number of local farmers who will divide it up. It was one of the few farms to sell in the area. The first half of the year was very slow but we have had a number of farm sales since June.’

The residence, a traditional stone storey-built farmhouse with an upper floor, was remodelled and extended over the years and is in good condition. At a packed auction the property was offered as an entire or in parcels. The auctioneer bidding on the entire was undaunted by competing offers and his final bid brought the price to €950,000. He won the day paying €15,079/ac for the model farm.
