Gorey Under-14s bag nine tries

-

KILKENNY WERE the visitors to Gorey on Saturday for the first round of the Under-14 Leinster League.

Gorey had a strong start and were in good control for the majority of the game.

Tries, nine in total, were scored by Brian Cushe, Ross O’Loughlin, Michal Kruczek, George Hadden and Ewan Stephens, with seven conversions kicked by Lee Cushe.

Thanks to all parents who provided refreshments for the teams and who helped out. The lads travel to Enniscorthy next Saturday morning for a second round fixture.

Team: A. McNeill, E. McCrea, E. Byrne, R. Tubritt, R. Arnold, D. Fitzpatrick, E. Stephens, G. Hadden, L. Cushe, S. O’Hagan, T. Baxter, M. Kruczek, R. O’Loughlin, B. Cushe, C. Byrne, J. Curley, S. Guilfoyle, P. Kinsella, A. Cleary, J. Milne, R. Cleary.

After a very nervous start to the season, Gorey Under-15s came back with a bang, beating Naas 65-0 on Saturday.

A very strong display from a rampaging pack, well led by Joe Tallon, got Gorey on the scoresheet early and they never looked back.

The lads defended like Trojans and the visiting Naas team never looked like scoring.

Gorey: G. Murray, J.J. O’Neill, P. Doyle, O. Austin, K. McLaughlin, J. Tallon, D. Cooke, P. Darcy, H. O’Brien, G. Slattery, C. Popplewell, J. Colclough, S. O’Hagan, L. Noblett, K. Budeanu, O. O’Hagan, S. Timmons, S. Quirke, J. Kinsella.

Having got off to a cracking start to the league, Gorey seconds travelled to Kilkenny unbeaten and were hoping to continue that good run to date.

The match started with the home team playing with a strong breeze and setting a blistering pace. Some good ball retention and Gorey indiscipline saw Kilkenny open their account with two early penalties.

Gorey slowly got into the game and when Tommy Newe out-paced the home defence to secure the ball, quick hands saw Aidan O’Brien put Seán Carty through for a fine try, for O’Brien to convert.

But this was as good as it got for the visitors as, with half-time approaching, Kilkenny added two rapid tries to extend their lead to 20-7.

Things did not improve for Gorey in the second-half as Kilkenny grew in confidence and added two further tries, with Gorey getting a consolation try from Achille O’Neill.
