HOUSE OF STORIES
There was a large attendance in Ballindaggin Community Hall on Thursday night last for the monthly session of house of stories where bean an tí Anne Farrell welcomed the huge attendance. There was a warm welcome back for some people who were sick recently. As always the talented group of musicians delivered fantastic music with some lovely singers and great comedy acts on the night also. The recitations and tall tales were second to none. A lovely tea was enjoyed at the interval with all the usual home made goodies on table.

Sympathy was extended to Seán Dalton on the death of his brother Pat and to May Doran on the death of her sister Lil Murray. Get well wishes were extended to Jim Roche and all who are unwell at present. Bean an tí thanked all for their support.
DUFFRY ROVERS LOTTO
The numbers drawn last week were 16, 23, 29 and 31. Matchthree winner Cella Connolly, Ballindaggin who won €150. Sellers prizes went to; Dan Doyle, Eddie Doyle, Denis Doyle and Thrish Rackard. Draw tonight Tuesday. October 18 is in the Holy Grail and the jackpot is €1,600.
SOCIAL
The October social will take place in Kltealy Community Hall on Friday, October 28. Music by Declan Augier, tea and refreshments served.
BOOK LAUNCHED
Congratulations to Gloria Binnions, Killanne on her lovely book ‘Old Blackstairs Families’ which was launched in Killanne Hall last Thursday night.
The book which took over a year to complete and contains the names of over 100 families who are or were connected with this area over last 200 years and also lots of photographs is great value at €10 and would make a lovely Christmas gift for anyone especially people living abroad. Gloria expresses thanks to everyone who contributed to the publication.
ART AND CRAFT FAIR
There will be a Christmas art and craft fair on Sunday, November 20, in Kiltealy Community Hall from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in aid of Kiltealy Voluntary Cardiac Response. Kids activities also. Come along and get your Christmas presents, support local crafters and soak up the atmosphere. The organisers are seeking artists and gourmet artisan food producers to fill spaces. POKER CLASSIC
A reminder to all poker players of five card game, that the annual Duffry Rovers poker game will take place in Jordan’s Lounge, Ballindaggin on Friday, November 11, at 9.30 p.m. As in previous years there is a prize fund of over €1,000. Tickets are €20 which includes food and door prizes. Tickets are available from any committee member or player. This year there is a special draw with a prize of a weekend hotel break for two and everyone who buys a ticket BEFORE the night will be entered into the draw.
POINT-TO-POINT
Congratulations to local jockey Barry O’Neill, Monbeg, Ballindaggin on winning the last three races on the card at the point-to-point in Fairwood, Tinahely on Sunday, October 9.
CHARITY DANCE
There will be a charity dance in Rathnure Hall on Saturday, November 5, in aid of ‘Kevin Bell Repatriation fund’ (a charity which was set up in 2013 by the Bell family to help families of people who die abroad in sudden of tragic circumstances) Music on the night will be by Mick Comerford. Admission €10 including tea.
There will also be a run/walk in Enniscorthy Sports Hub, Cherryochard on Sunday, November 6, beginning at 10.30 a.m. (walk) and 10.45 a.m. for the run. A donation bucket will be on the track. Your support would be welcome.
BLACKSTAIRSFARMINGGROUP
The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed TD, launched the start of the selection process for Locally Led Agri Environment Scheme (LLAES) pilots at an event in Athlone on Friday, October 14.
The DAFM have confirmed that ‘this will be a competitive process and the proposals shortlisted for support will then be funded to develop full project-plans, which in turn will form the basis to shortlist for implementation on the ground’.
The Blackstairs Farming Group have been developing a LLAES proposal since June 2014. There will be further notices here as we finalise our application which is due to be submitted by year end.
