DONEDEAL HANDS OUT €34,000 TO CHARITIES

- BY DAVID TUCKER

WEXFORD-BASED online classified website, DoneDeal.ie, has raised €34,195 through its most recent charity month initiative.

The proceeds, from the money raised in September will go to The Irish Kidney Association, Purple House Cancer Support and County Wexford Hospice Homecare.

Each charity received €11,398 from DoneDeal to invest in important projects over the coming months. The prime role of The Irish Kidney Association is to support patients and their families effected by kidney disease and are either being treated by dialysis or have a working kidney transplant.

The donation from DoneDeal will be used to support the free services the organisation provides to patients, including financial support, counselling, accommodation in their support centre and raising vital awareness for organ donation.

Purple House Cancer Support is based in Bray, County Wicklow, with a cancer support clinic in Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin.

The organisation helps to rebuild the lives of families affected by cancer providing professional services such as counselling, complimentary therapies, bereavement counselling, services for children and young adults such as creative arts and health awareness campaigns.

County Wexford Hospice Homecare provides a specialist nursing service that is in place 365 days a year, to provide palliative care ensuring that people who are coping with a life threatening illness have access to appropriate homecare and support. The donation from DoneDeal will be used to support the nursing team that provides medical care for patients in their homes.

Joe Costello, Chairman of County Wexford Hospice Homecare, said the extraordinary generosity and efforts of the public who work so hard at fundraising from the various activities, events they organise and run to make County Wexford Hospice Homecare possible.

‘Without the thoughtfulness, kindness and tenacity of the people and companies like DoneDeal that fundraise and donate to the charity, County Wexford Hospice Homecare would not currently be in existence or in the position to offer the wonderful services it provides.’

Every second month a charity is chosen by three members of staff at DoneDeal and for the duration of that month, 10 per cent of the cost of placing a paid ad on DoneDeal goes directly to the designated charity. The money raised is divided equally between three worthy organisations. Frazer Waters and Renata Marini, DoneDeal; Joe Costello, County Wexford Hospice Homecare; Dan Whelan, DoneDeal; Eamonn Buttle, Irish Kidney Association; Clare McKiernan, Purple House Cancer Support; and Conor O’Leary, Purple House Cancer Support.
