Renewal schemes allocated over €377,000 in funding
ALMOST €400,000 has been allocated by the government for town and village renewal schemes thoughout County Wexford.
The €377,549 in funding was announced by the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Heather Humphrey, last Friday.
The funding is as follows: Bunclody, accessibility, visual appearance and safety of main thoroughfare, €34,021; Enniscorthy, accessibility, visual appearance and safety within the main industrial/ commercial area, €59,478; Bridgetown, installation of a new footpath and pedestrain crossing, €47,000; Campile, raised platforms (traffic calming) footpath, €25,000; New Ross, undergrounding of power lines, upgrade of footpath, pedestrian crossing, €70,550; Rosslare Harbour, resurfacing of road, €48,000; Ferns, tourism, €65,450, and Camolin is to get 28,050 for landscaping, additional seating, a picnic area and signage.
Minister Paul Kehoe said that the government was committed to helping rural communities and to ward off the threat of imbalanced regional development, which could threaten the progress which has already been made.
‘ The South East was particularly badly impacted by the downturn, which left its mark on small towns and villages. This funding will be vital to ensuring that Wexford begins to feel the benefits of our growing economy,’ he said.
‘I am also assured by my colleague Minister Heather Humphreys that work on an Action Plan for Rural Development is well under way.
‘ This plan will bring together further positive initiatives which will benefit communities across County Wexford.’
