CBS pupils go back to class 50 years later

-

FIFTY years have passed since the class of 1966 left Enniscorthy CBS and though they took with them plenty of lessons and memories, they certainly didn’t leave with their maths skills. Twenty-six of the past pupils gathered for a 50 year reunion at Enniscorthy Golf Club, where one of them Paddy O’Connor landed each of them with copies of the Leaving Certificate Maths Paper from 1966. Past-pupil John Walsh said they had great difficulty in trying to solve the equations. ‘Not one of us could understand the maths!’ he laughed. Thankfully, it wasn’t all about the exams. The past pupils enjoyed a meal and a long-awaited catch-up, followed by some entertainment conjured up by the group themselves. ‘Gary McCauley, Martin Ryan and Eddie Breen used to be the principal cast members in our annual school show. They got up and led us in Boolavogue at the reunion,’ said John. Among the group was Sam McCauley, along with former County Manager Eddie Breen, who John said made a speech ‘on behalf of the townies.’ Meanwhile, past pupil Michael Foley spoke on behalf of the ‘country lads’ in the school. ‘We had an excellent night. Everyone was delighted to catch up and we met some fellas who we hadn’t seen in a long time,’ said John. ‘It went on until about one o’clock in the morning and we talked a lot about old times.’ The event was organised by a committee of past pupils and is the second reunion since the class reunion 25 years ago. John said the event was made all the better by Wexford Golf Club and their chef Greg who provided the food.
