WEXFORD ARTISTS AT ART SOURCE

The RDS, Dublin, November 11, 12 and 13

The work of five County Wexford artists will be showcased in front of an expected 15,000 people at Ireland’s top art show Art Source which will be held at the RDS in Dublin this weekend, November 11, 12 and 13. Jane Meyler, John Dunn, Bernadette Doolan, Lina Varna and Guy Urbin will have pieces on display at the year’s biggest art fair.

Jane Meyler from Rosslare focuses on painting in the open air and developing her skills as a pastels artist although she also uses oils and sketching.

John Dunn from Ferns creates mechanical sculptures and crafts and paints wall-art scenes with moving pieces, from flying seagulls to moving boats.

Enniscorth­y artist Bernadette Doolan’s work taps into the emotion of her experience or others that she has witnessed.

Enniscorth­y goldsmith Lina Varna works with blacksmith Danius Varna to design and create sculptures and jewellery.

Guy Urbin, also from Enniscorth­y, learned to be a blacksmith in France and creates a vast collection from decorative candelabra­s to functional pokers and door stops.

Art Source will feature over 120 contempora­ry artists and 30 Irish and internatio­nal galleries gathering together to showcase painting, sculpture, photograph­y, illustrati­on, prints and ceramic art.

Admission to the fair is €10 for adults with concession­s at €8. Children under 16 free with a parent or guardian.

Wexford Arts Centre will host an artist talk in associatio­n with the Wexford Carlow School of Art & Design on Thursday November 10 from 11 am to 1 pm. The talk will be given by Professor Valentina Vitali, who will speak about film and globalisat­ion.

Find out how stay-at-home mum Carmel Harrington juggled babies and books to become a success story in the digital publishing world, and has now landed a worldwide deal with HarperColl­ins. Carmel will also read a short extract from her latest novel, The Things I Should Have Told You.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT GIGS

Infusion Theatre, Monck Street

A series of three Wednesday night gigs featuring top Irish acts will be held at Infusion Theatre over Fusion Cafe in Monck Street in the run up to Christmas.

‘Infusion Live’ presents Leslie Dowdall and Mike Hanrahan in a concert this Wednesday, November 9, followed by Sonny Condell and Leo O’Kelly of Tína nÓg on November 23, and John Spillane on December 7.

Leslie Dowdall, formerly of the band In Tua Nua and Mike Hanrahan, formerly of Stockton’s Wing have toured intermitte­ntly in recent years, performing together at intimate venues.

Leslie has two solo recordings under her belt, ‘No Guilt No Guile’ and ‘Out There’. Her song ‘Wonderful Thing’ was one of the hit songs of the 1990’s and featured on national ad campaigns including the National Lottery.

Mike Hanrahan has released two solo albums -’Someone Like You’ and ‘ What you Know’. He spent many years touring and recording with Ronnie Drew and Eleanor Shanley. ‘Beautiful Affair’, a hit song he wrote for Stockton’s Wing was voted into National Irish Radio’s top 75 songs.

Their live show features Leslie on vocals, keyboard and guitar and Mike on guitars and vocals.

The Infusion gigs are organised by Philip Cullen.
