Positive signs emerging in housing market says Kehoe

POSITIVE signs are being to emerge of the rebuilding of the housing sector in County Wexford, according to Minister Paul Kehoe.

Rebuilding Ireland was launched in July by the Minister for Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government Simon Coveney and is the government’s plan to accelerate housing supply and transform housing for the benefit of every community in Ireland.

‘It goes without saying that the housing sector is broken and that there are serious challenges facing us, but these are very real signs of the progress being made by Fine Gael in government to transform the housing sector in Wexford.’

Minister Kehoe said the Government is committed to an ambitious plan aimed at keeping families in their homes and increasing construction to address the shortage of new homes.

‘We have launched Rebuilding Ireland to ensure everyone can access a home, either with support from the State or from their own resources.

‘It is an action driven plan focused on increasing the number homes year on year, but already positive signs are beginning to emerge with €1.8 million allocated in recent weeks for the construction of 10 new housing units in Rosslare and Enniscorthy.’

These are two units at Cois Mara, Rosslare and eight unites at Madeira Oaks, The Moyne, Enniscorthy.

‘In addition over €500,000 has been allocated to Wexford County Council to refurbish 26 vacant housing units,’ he said. ‘ The implementation of the Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) Scheme is also being accelerated with the scheme likely to commence in Wexford at the start of next month. The Scheme allows recipients to increase their household income without the risk of losing their housing support,’said Minister Kehoe.
