SILVER SERVICE AT ENNISCORTHY LIBRARY
The 60-strong audience at Enniscorthy Library last Thursday were treated to a top-drawer event with the delightfully witty entertainer and raconteur Francis Brennan.
THe author, hotelier and TV personality enchanted with tales from his young entrepreneurnial days, beginning at 12 years of age selling festive logs door to door at Christmas and moving on aged 14 to provide a babysitting service dropping flyers to 600 houses with 42 people working for him. Francis Brennan was always destined to be in business and was always working his way towards owning his own hotel, which happened in 1980 when he opened the Park Hotel in Kenmare and things have gone from strength to strength for him since.
Now he is also bringing out his own range of bed linen in conjunction with Dunnes Stores and working with Tom Forde’s Spa and Cosmetic Company Sisley in the States. Along with all of that he works with RTE on the very popular programme At Your Service and the exciting travel series The Grande Tour. Francis has also written two books A Guide to Life and a Guide to Happiness and intends bringing out a third next year which he says will be a kind of modern day Mrs. Beaton.
There seems to be no end to this man’s talents nor indeed to his energy and enthusiasm, when I asked him what he did to relax he said he never feels the need to relax. ‘I love what I do, I love my life and if I were to die in the morning I would have to say that I have had a fantastic life.’
What a wonderful quote from a wonderfully happy man who draws his curtains each morning on beautiful Kenmare and thanks God that he lives and works there. Francis couldn’t be drawn on where the Grande Tour was heading to next year but he did tell all at the library how to apply by emailing info@ waddelmedia.com
An excellent evening and a most entertaining and captivating speaker, full marks to Enniscorthy Library and Jarlath Glynn for providing us with this free event on our doorsteps.
