TIME TO ANSWER THE LIONS’ CALL
WEXFORD Lions Club are calling on artists of all ages to enter their annual Open Submission Exhibition which will be held at Wexford Arts Centre in January 2017.
Everyone is invited to submit art works regardless of their level of skill or previous experience. The exhibition celebrates local talent and offers a platform to artists at various stages of their careers.
The theme for the 2017 Lions Club event has once again been left open, allowing the participants the freedom to create exciting and original artwork. The exhibition will be on public view in the lower and upper galleries of Wexford Arts Centre from Saturday, January 21 to Saturday, February 18 2017.
The Young Lions gallery, dedicated to the work of budding young artists, will also be open. Younger entrants are encouraged to experiment with all types of media and objects including paints, glitter, buttons, transfers etc. The Lions Club also wishes to promote the talents of local sculptors and artists working in three dimensional form and sculpture will be especially welcome.
Participants are asked to complete an application form and collect a cartridge/ watercolour paper or canvas from Wexford Arts Centre. If artists are interested in submitting 3D works, they must also fill out an application form but should note that the work must be no larger than 35(w) x 35(l) x 50(h) cms. Taking into consideration the time needed to produce sculpture particularly when working with materials such as wood, metal and ceramics, sculptors may enter work produced over the past 3-5 months and only submit new works not previously shown in a gallery context.
Applications are limited to one per person and as the number of artists participating in the exhibition is limited, applications will be processed on a first come, first served basis. Application forms and canvases/boards are available now and the deadline for submission of completed work to Wexford Arts Centre is Thursday 12th January 2017. The exhibition entry fee is €10 per applicant. All artworks must be submitted unframed on or before this date and on the paper/canvas provided by the Arts Centre.
