Local motorists are disqualified

-

DRIVING bans were imposed for relatively minor speeding offences at the November 10 sitting of the District Court in Gorey.

Joseph Strunks (42) with an address of Cash 4 Clothes, Ambassador Retail Park, Gorey was dealt two convictions and a disqualification.

Garda Cathal Burke told how he was operating a speed check on the motorway at Ballydermot on September 26, 2015 when he detected Strunks’s van travelling at 142 km/h – fine €300.

No driving licence was produced, though the garda reported that Strunks was a UK licence holder, so a second fine of €300 was imposed.

With no sign of the accused and no licence number in court, Judge Gerard Haughton put him off the road for a year.

Also disqualified for a year was another absent defendant - Liam King, Baker’s Croft, Tinnock, Gorey who broke the 60 km/h speed limit at Inch in October of last year. Garda Burke reported that a speed of 74 km/h was recorded and, with no licence number to hand, the €300 fine came with the 12 month loss of licence.

His non-attendance in court led to a driving ban too for speeding motorist David O’Connor of Sliabh Anna, The Old Road, Annagh Gap, Gorey. His offence was detected by Garda Burke at Inch on October 9, 2015, when a speed of 75 km/h was recorded – fined €300 and, with the licence number not available, 12 month disqualification.
