Drug dealing accused cannot visit new son

-

A BID by drug dealing accused Ryszard Klimscak (26) of Apartment 3, Chapel Lane, Bunclody to have his passport returned so that he may visit his new-born son in America failed to persuade Judge Gerard Haughton.

The Polish national stood accused by Garda Kevin Dooley of having a large quantity of cannabis herb at his flat in Bunclody.

Preliminary estimates suggested that the drugs find could be worth €90,000 according to Garda Dooley when he gave evidence at Gorey District Court.

Solicitor Lana Doherty expressed impatience at the lack of instructions from the DPP pointing out that the matter first appeared on the court list as long ago as July 29.

The garda explained that he had no report from the laboratory of Forensic Ireland assessing the find, so no file had yet been forwarded to the DPP.

The court learned that the child was born on October 3 where Klimscak’s partner had gone to be with her mother.

The defendant, a worker at the Slaney Foods factory in Clohamon, had not seen the child as his passport was held by the authorities in Ireland so he could not book a plane ticket.

Sergeant Gary Rayner pointed out that the accused man owned no property in Ireland and has no family here either.

The sergeant suggested that Klimscak was a flight risk, adding that the defendant made admissions when arrested.

Judge Haughton refused the application for return of the passport but warned the prosecution ‘ time is running’, suggesting that a decision on how to deal with the prosecution was required promptly.
