New Wexford Film Festival shines light on independen­t production­s

THE INAUGURAL Wexford Film Festival organised by the Screen-based filmmaker Dave McGlone will take place in Wexford Arts Centre from this Friday, November 25, to Sunday, November 27.

Eighteen films were selected for screening during the festival which aims to shine a light on independen­t films and promote Wexford as a location for filmakers around the world.

On the opening night the following films will be screened, starting at 7.15 pm – Blood Brothers, Electric Faces, Her Lies Mrs Higgins, Breathe with the final film My Mother Once Told Me showing at 10.10 pm.

The Saturday night offering includes Beans, The Apparel, Dean Pan, Midnight Show, The Irish Catskills, Wait and The United Guys Network while Sunday night will see the screening of Shiloh, Incoming Call, The Fireman and the Nurse, Chateau Sauvignon: terrior, The Focus Group and By Any Means.

Awards will be presented for Best Film, Best Short Film, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Director. A screenplay competitio­n will also be held, sponsored by screenwrit­ing software company Final Draft.

A closing party will be held in T. Morris on Sunday night.

‘We have film directors and actors flying in from places such as New York and Vancouver and it promises to be quite a weekend,’ said Dave whose goal is to develop the festival as an internatio­nal event.
