Camogie teams learn fate
THE WEXFORD Senior and Intermediate squads learned their opponents in the group stages of the championship in 2017 when the draws were made live via the Camogie Association’s Facebook page on Friday.
The toughest opposition for the Seniors in Group 2 will once again come from beaten All-Ireland finalists Cork who knocked them out of contention after extra-time in the penultimate round.
Wexford will also be facing Offaly, Limerick and Tipperary in the five-strong section, although they will have a bye on the day the championship starts - Saturday, June 10 - when Limerick will host Offaly while Cork will visit Tipperary.
All-Ireland holders Kilkenny are included in Group 1 along with Clare, Dublin, Galway and Waterford.
The Noresiders also claimed the Intermediate crown on a September day to savour in Croke Park, and Wexford will have the tough task of facing them in the 2017 championship opener.
It will be a home venue for the Slaneysiders, also on Saturday, June 10, and unless regulations change it would appear that Kilkenny will have to field a new team as none of the 2016 medal winners will be eligible for Intermediate.
Six teams in total are included in the group, with Wexford also set to play Antrim, Derry, Kildare and Tipperary.
Group 2 features Carlow, Cork, Down, Galway, Laois and Meath.
