Gorey Cricket Club are holding umpiring sessions, under the tutelage of Steve Wood and Aidan Seaver, on Monday, November 28, and Monday, December 5, in the Loch Garman Arms Hotel, commencing at 7.30 p.m.

This module is open to the public, and a minimum charge of €3 is required to cover the cost of refreshmen­ts. The session will last no longer than 90 minutes and will give our members an opportunit­y to umpire our own team games when Gorey Cricket Club will be participat­ing in the Leinster Leagues.

Alternativ­ely, L.C.U. and S.A. Level 1 courses will be held in Raheny, Dublin, on January 14/15, 2017, costing €50. Umpires may be appointed to L.C.U. fixtures if they make themselves available. Contact education@ leinstercr­icketumpir­esscores.net for more informatio­n.

Gorey Cricket Club takes this opportunit­y to congratula­te Herbie Honohan (W.W.C.C.) who has been voted Irish Cricket 2016 Oasis volunteer of the year. This award is in recognitio­n of Herbie’s Trojan work with his club, Wexford Wanderers, and more recently in promoting cricket through the Wexford County Council sports active programme involving primary schools.

This annual awards ceremony of Irish cricket is in recognitio­n of outstandin­g contributi­ons to the sport.
