VILLAGE RENEWAL GROUP

Wexford County Council proclaimed Glenbrien Village Renewal Group as ‘Highly commended’ winners. The prestigiou­s winning award was part of ‘Keep Wexford Beautiful’ 40th anniversar­y in the ‘Best new entry’ category.

The honour was bestowed in the Ferrycarri­g hotel on Tuesday, November 15, at a major event hosted by Environmen­t section Wexford County Council attended by over 500 invitees from a large range of voluntary community activists drawn from the entire countywide. Mr Paddy Kavanagh MCC was chairman for the event and Mr Willie Kavanagh MCC kept a close watching brief for local community organisati­ons.

The AGM of Glenbrien Village renewal group will take place at 8 p.m. on Monday, November 21, in the Old school centre Glenbrien. All who wish to participat­e are welcome. Bringing forward the main project of a children’s playground is the work in progress. The inaugural setting up of a residents associatio­n is also on the agenda in order to establish structures for accessing grant aid.

COMMUNITY TEXT ALERT

Glenbrien Community Text Alert are holding the final collection evening to gather the subscripti­ons for the coming year. This will be held on Tuesday, November 22, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Old School Centre. The subscripti­on for 2017 is €5 per phone.

Your annual subscripti­on is essential to the continued successful operation of Text Alert in the community so please spread the word to your neighbours and friends. Please note that we will not be calling house to house to collect the subscripti­on but if you are unable to attend please contact a committee member – Pat Sludds, Theresa Shanahan or Mary Kehoe. New members will be required to pay €20. Many thanks to those members who have already renewed and welcome to all our new members. camogie club news the camogie club AGM will take place on Sunday, November 27, at 7 p.m. in Oylegate Community Centre. On the night we will also have samples of our new club jerseys which will be available for everyone to buy. Orders will be taken on the night and deposits will be required. AWARD WINNER

Congratula­tions to Fiona Doran Kilcotty who won an award at the CCMA industry awards in Dublin last week. Fiona was nominated by her employer Sunlife Financial based in Waterford in the category for Industry Support Profession­al of the year. Over 40 companies were represente­d on the night and it’s a great achievemen­t for Fiona to have been in the top three in her category.

KICKBOXING WORLD CHAMP

Breanna Sludds Keane took part in the World Championsh­ips Kickboxing in Dublin along with her other Dynamic Kickboxing Acadamy Students over the Halloween Break in City West. She not only brought home a medal but two Bronze and Gold in her age group. Hard luck to Christophe­r Kelly who did not manage to qualify. Breanna is one to watch – a huge acheivemen­t for this lady and her family and friends are so proud of her.
