S.B.R. A.C.

-

Myles Gibbons, Tomás Kavanagh, Ian McQuillan and Niall O’Connor all competed as part of the inaugural Gorey Park Run on Saturday.

As was only fitting, Myles Gibbons won the first Park Run ever in Gorey and was followed closely by teammate and S.B.R. runner on the rise, Tomás Kavanagh.

Ian McQuillan continues his return from injury and ran a fine sixth place finish of more than one hundred competitors. Niall O’Connor got the biggest plaudits though, pushing his two children in a buggy to finish 38th.

The S.B.R. men and women were represented on Sunday at the national cross-country championships at the new purpose-built course in Abbotstown.

With European cross-country selection and national titles on the line, it was an extremely competitive field. Paul Gibbons ran extremely well to be the first Wexford man home in 36:47, with Noel Kennedy close at hand, three places and ten seconds behind in 36:58.

Willie Rossiter ran well and finished up in 40:22. This was a competitive run for all three against national class competition and should stand to them in advance of the Wexford championships.

On the women’s side, Lillian Lawless ran a fantastic race to finish as the sixth Wexford woman home on the Wexford team that placed fifth at the national championships.

Lillian has had a tremendous year from the winter league to summer league and races across the county and country.

She will look to lead a resurgent S.B.R. women’s cross-country team at the Wexford championships on December 18 alongside Belinda Kehoe, Ciara Bowe, Louise Gregan, Clodagh Dunbar, Louise Kehoe, Lisa Murphy and many more.

Training continues for cross-country with the Wexford Senior cross-country championships to take place on Sunday fortnight. Runners are meeting in Ferns on Tuesday and Thursday nights. For more information contact Lukie Kehoe (087-3222914).
