MISTRESS of ceremonies Helena Mulkerns and her piano man Josh Johnston will lead a truly eclectic mix of performers at Cáca Milis Christmas Cabaret in Wexford Arts Centre on Friday, December 16, starting at 9 p.m.

From a literary reading to a performance of Tango dancing, the cabaret billed as a little post-modern vaudeville aims to entertain with a line-up that dips into a wide variety of artistic pots.

The evening will kick off with some tribute songs to the one that got away this year including Bowie, Cohen and prince.

The Remedy Club (formerly B and the Honeyboy) comprising husband and wife duo KJ McEvoy and Aileen Mythen will play songs from their latest recording ‘Forgotten Books ‘ which is a mixture of folk and country with a hint of the blues.

There will be an appearance by the Dublin singersongwriter Gar Cox known for his wonderful song ‘ Too Late for Christmas’ with its yuletide reflections of an Irish person living abroad which went viral online when issued last year. There will be dance drama from Ellina Shmarkovska and Andrew Green performing some sensual Argentinian Tango and Milonga dances.

The cabaret welcomes Natalia Cullen, a popular chanteuse in the Russian Irish community who will be joined by musician Des Kiely for some smooth vocals and jazz guitar.

The musician known as The Late David Turpin who is also involved in film will bring his mix of mood, fantasy, glam and techno to the stage in a performance with a stunning multi-media edge. His first featur screenplay ‘ The Lodgers’ is currently in production.

His name isis a reference to a near-death experience he had of 28 seconds duration.

His album We Belong Dead was a collaboration with co-producers Stephen Shannon and Hunter- Gatherer, guitatrists Conor J O’Brien ( Villagers) and Colin Boylan (Bouts), violinist Cora Venus Lunny and vocalist Cathy Davey.

His inspirations include 20th century choral pieces, vintage disco, trap music, Walt Disney scores and William Golding’s novel The Inheritors.

Wexford author Cat Hogan will provide literary thrills by reading from her novel ‘ They All Fall Down’.

As a last minute surprise, Eoin Colfer and cast members from the upcoming production Noel in the National Opera House will present a song from the show which runs from December 19 to 23.

Wexfordian Seán Kiley whose original poetry and short fiction has been published in anthologies and reviews, will read live for the first time on Friday night,

There are more acts yet to be confirmed as the Cáca Milis cabaret is all about surprise and spontaneity. MC Helena recently enjoyed the launch of her debut novel ‘Ferenji’ which is on sale in Wexford Book Centre.
