Super victory at home for brave under-15s

-

GOREY under-15s hosted Longford at Clonattin on Saturday in the second phase of the Leinster league campaign.

Both teams were narrowly defeated last weekend, so both teams were looking for a strong game, and that was exactly what happened.

Both sets of forwards had to work hard and a tight defensive match followed with both teams looking for the slightest gap, small- est error or mistake.

Credit must go to both teams for their commitment and work rate, but especially the Gorey team, they brought all their training and hard work to the game.

Although much of the possession was Longford’s, the defensive attitude of Gorey wasn’t going to fail, and when Gorey won a breakdown the ball found its way into the hands of winger Lee Noblett who pinned his ears back and scored a blinding try which was converted by George Slattery.

George also scored a penalty to put Gorey 10 points to the good. The tempo of the match settled in to an arm wrestle and Longford deservedly scored, but a fantastic long range try from full-back Kevin Budeanu relieved the pressure.

The Longford fly half who had been a threat all day scored in the last few minutes of the game for a nervous finish, the score at the end was 15-10 to Gorey.

A fantastic result after last week’s defeat away to Edenderry.
