Caroline is top of the world in CPA
AN accountancy student from North Wexford has won first place worldwide in CPA Ireland’s examinations
Caroline Siggins, from Tara Hill, Gorey, was awarded the Liam Donnelly Medal of Excellence, by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland (CPA Ireland) as she was conferred with membership of CPA Ireland at a recent ceremony in Croke Park.
The award marks her accomplishments as first place worldwide in the final CPA Ireland examinations and best performance in the paper on Audit Practice and Assurance Services.
Caroline, (26), is the daughter of Marion and Eamonn Siggins from Tara Hill. She attended Tara Hill National School and Gorey Community School. She then went on to NUI Galway where she had studied for a degree in Mathematics and Spanish. She is a fluent Spanish speaker.
She now works as a Client Financial Accountant with the Irish Life Group in its Middle Abbey Street offices in Dublin for an Irish Life subsidiary called Irish Progressive Services International or IPSI.
The award was a particularly proud moment for her parents, as Eamonn also happens to be the Chief Executive of CPA Ireland.
Caroline explained her decision to take up a career in accountancy. ‘When I finished college, I wasn’t sure what career path I wanted to follow,’ she said. ‘Maths and finance related subjects were ones I really enjoyed, so I decided to try accountancy for a year and ended up loving it.’
‘I have benefited from being in an excellent training environment in Irish Progressive Services International which is part of the Irish Life Group,’ she added. ‘ The experience and mentoring I have gained there really helped me in my examination progress.’
Her proud father Eamonn congratulated Caroline and all the graduates. ‘ This week we saw new 76 CPA accountants graduate and join the profession,’ he said. ‘ There is close to full employment for this year’s graduating class, which clearly shows that it is a valuable qualification and one that opens a lot of doors both nationally and internationally.’
‘I would like to congratulate all of our newest CPAs for the hard work and achievements to date,’ he continued.
