CHURCH NEWS

VISITS TO THE SICK AND HOUSEBOUND – Fr Richard will visit the sick and housebound on Tuesday morning, December 13.

CONFESSIONS – Advance notice for Christmas Confessions: December 19 at 7.30 p.m. in Monaseed and 8 p.m. in Craanford.

PARISH ENVELOPES FOR 2017 – Representatives of Craanford parish council will distribute parish envelopes in the near future. Sincere thanks to all who support this essential fundraiser. Since they are costly to produce envelopes are only being given to those people who have made a return in the last two years. However, we always welcome new contributors and it will be possible to sign on to the system by calling to the Parochial House at any time or at our annual Finance Sunday coming up in the new year. More information will be given about this in advance. It is also possible to arrange a Direct Debit from your bank. The necessary information can be obtained from Fr Richard.

It is important for us to reach out to new contributors. We invite non-participating parishioners, especially younger members of the parish to acknowledge their responsibility to our community by joining the Envelope system and making a contribution. It is not fair of us to leave the burden of funding the parish to the more mature members of our community. All of us have a duty to contribute according to our ability to pay. A small amount given by many people amounts to a lot. While meeting our obligations to the diocesan, national and international church, the vast majority of the Envelope Collection goes to our own local needs here in St Patrick’s parish, Craanford.

The envelope collection is our major source of funding for the parish and pays for all the day to day running expenses. The Parish Envelopes are our way to raise our needed funds as parishioners co-operating together. There is no simpler or fairer way. Please consider giving it your support.

On December 4 35 people returned their envelopes and contributed €414. Thanks also to those who are using the Direct Debit means of contributing and to all who contribute to the day to day running of the parish through this collection.

YOUNG AT HEART PARTY

Our Young at Heart party for 2016 took place last Sunday in Craanford community hall. Once again we had a great crowd from Hollyfort, Monaseed and Craanford. Our party goers were welcomed into the hall to some fantastic music by local musicians, John and Pat Bass. Many thanks to John and Pat who took time out of their busy Sunday to entertain the guests.

Following John and Pat there was dancing to Tommy Carroll. Thanks to Santa for his visit. After the refreshments Brendan Doyle gave a recitation and Brendan Byrne and Jack Kenny both sang. All guests took home a present which included a Christmas card from the local schools.

Many compliments were paid on the day but the biggest compliment must surely go to Mairead Bass for her beautiful handmade bunting. It really put a lovely touch to the hall and we will have it for many years to come.

Photographs from the day will be left into Gala soon which can then be collected as a memento of the day. (There is no charge for the photos) We look forward to next year’s party so keep the first Sunday in December 2017 free.
