TODDLER GROUP

There will be great excitement in Boolavogue hall tomorrow morning, Wednesday, December 14, at around 10 a.m. when Santa himself will call in on the toddler group. Any parent who wishes to leave a message with him regarding a present, should contact the Toddler Group via Facebook or by phoning or texting 087 7962161. All parents, grand-parents, friends and relatives of the toddlers are invited along to take pictures of the excitement. The toddlers will also be making some Christmas presents on the day.

The group’s last meeting of 2016 will be on Wednesday, December 21, when they will hold a Christmas party for all the parents and children. They will meet for the first time in the New Year on Wednesday, January the 11th. at the usual time.

The parents of the toddlers are organising a ‘parents-only’ night in the Harrow on Saturday next, the 17th at 9.30 p.m. Make sure to organise your baby-sitter so that you can stay a while.

CHRISTMAS DRAW

On Sunday next, December 18, after 11 a.m. Mass, the Parish Committee’s Christmas draw will be held and all the 16 prizes distribute­d. This year’s draw features a bumper list ranging from a vacuum cleaner, through various vouchers, confection­s and alcoholic beverages, winter fuels down to a lovely tin of biscuits. Lines costing €2 each or three for €5 are available from committee members and are also on sale before or after all weekend Masses in St Cormac’s church.

FORÓIGE CRAFT FAIR

Boolavogue’s Foróige youth group are organising a Craft Fair on Sunday the 18th in Boolavogue Hall starting at 1.30 p.m. As well as the usual craft stalls, there will be a children’s fun area with activities including face painting and making your own Christmas tree decoration. Home baking and handmade crafts will be on sale and hot chocolate, tea and coffee will be served. A very special visitor will be arriving at 3 p.m.

MINISTERS OF THE WORD

The Ministers of the Word on duty next weekend in St Cormac’s are Martina Ivory at the Vigil Mass on Saturday night and Éinín Rossiter at the 11 a.m. Mass in Sunday, December 18. On Saturday evening, December 17, Ann Whelan is the Eucharisti­c minister on duty while Gaye Gahan will help distribute Holy Communion on Sunday morning.

GAA CLUB AGM

Peter Mernagh was elected chairperso­n of Monageer-Boolavogue GAA at their recent AGM with Seán McCabe and Ann Fenlon as joint secretarie­s. Mary Carton is the treasurer for the coming season with John Dolan as assistant treasurer.

GAA CALENDAR

The Monageer-Boolavogue GAA Club calendar for 2017 is now on sale and features all the underage boys’ and girls’ teams as well as the adult hurling and junior camogie team. Only a limited supply is available so please contact Jonathon Dunne, Órla Gahan or any Coiste na nÓg committee member. It only costs €10 and would make a great Christmas present.

GAA LOTTO

The draw for the Monageer-Boolavogue lotto was held on Tuesday, December 6, at 9.30 p.m. but no one was lucky enough to have all of the numbers, 4, 11, 13 and 20, drawn on the night. As a result the jackpot has been increased to €8,200 for the next draw which will be held on Tuesday, December 20, at 9.30 p.m. in the New Clubhouse. Shay Nolan and Jimmy Gahan, Knockduff split the €160 matchthree prize at the last outing. The draw on the 20th will also feature an extra draw for lots of festive fare and seasonal prizes. Make sure you have your ticket by contacting any club member or buying one in any of the local shops or pubs.

SPLIT-THE-POT

Monageer-Boolavogue’s Coiste na nÓg are organising a special split-the-pot fundraiser for the Christmas season, called ‘Festive Fivers’. The total amount raised will be split between one lucky winner and Coiste na nÓg. Last year’s lucky winner received more that €1,000.

Special ‘Festive Fiver’ envelopes are available in local businesses and from Coiste na nÓg committee members and coaches. The prize will be drawn on Sunday, December 18, in the Monageer Tavern at 9 p.m., nicely timed for Christmas.

SOCCER FUNDRAISER

St Cormac’s are raffling a package that includes tickets to the Manchester Utd. Vs West Bromwich Albion game in April 2017. Tickets for the draw cost €10 and the prize includes coach travel, ferry crossing and two nights accomodati­on as well as the tickets. All committee members will be selling the tickets from this weekend and they’d be delighted to sell you at least one.

CHOIR PRACTICE

With Christmas approachin­g, a choir has started rehearsals for the Christmas ceremonies in St Cormac’s. They will be meeting every Monday night at 8 p.m. and would be delighted to welcome new members.

SCHOOL NEWS

The pupils will be attending a special Christmas Mass in St Cormac’s church on Friday, December 16, at 9.30 a.m. and everyone is invited to join them in their celebratio­n.

On Thursday the December 22 at 7 p.m. they will be singing their hearts out at the school’s Carol Service in the church. Again everyone in the community is invited to come along.

PENANCE SERVICE

A Christmas penance service will be held in St Cormac’s on Monday evening, December 19, at 8 p.m.

CHRISTMAS MASSES

Christmas Eve Mass will be celebrated in St Cormac’s starting at 9 p.m. on Saturday, December 24. On Christmas morning, there will be two Masses, the first at 8 a.m. and the second at 11 a.m.

On St Stephen’s Day, Monday the 26th., there will be Mass at 11 a.m. and Mass each morning of Christmas week, from Tuesday to Friday at 9.30 a.m. each day.

CAMOGIE CLUB AGM

Monageer-Boolavogue camogie club held its annual general meeting on Friday, December 2, and the following officers were elected for the coming camogie season.
