Teresa Delaney was a fantastic mother

-

TERESA DELANEY, Brocurra, Adamstown, who passed away peacefully in her 92nd year on November 20, was a woman who had a deep love of nature and family.

Teresa (née O’Sullivan) was born on August 22, 1925, to Laurence and Ann O’Sullivan. She grew up in the Camross area and attended school with her cousins the Morrisseys who played with numerous Wexford GAA teams.

Teresa married Michael Delaney in 1946 and moved to Brocurra, the Delaney’s family home which was standing 400 years at that point. She led a simple and complete life and never asked or wanted for anything as she had everything she ever wanted in her faith, her family and her home.

A great mother, Teresa always ensured her children did their chores before they got on with the business of play.

Teresa encouraged all her children to do their work and always had their interests at heart.

She loved being outdoors, whether it was to see the first swallows take to the skies or the first born lambs in spring and was in tune with nature.

Shed love to help out on the farm and enjoyed being busy.

Teresa had a very keen interest in the GAA and enjoyed watching matches on the television.

A woman of great faith, she loved attending Mass and she tended the graves to ensure they were in order.

Teresa enjoyed great health throughout her life and could often be seen walking a couple of miles along roads new her home in Brocurra into her nineties.

The only thing that stopped her daily walk was a rainy day,

Having lost her own mother at an early age, she knew the importance of the mother figure in the household and also the importance of family values. This was reflected in the great care her children took of her right up until the end.

Teresa loved all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She knew all of their names and was always interested in their careers and wellbeing.

She was proud of her grandson Pádraic Delaney, the actor, and all of her family for their achievements.

A large crowd attended Teresa’s funeral Mass at St Abban’s Church in Adamstown where warm tributes were paid to her, and her burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Teresa is survived by her children Pat, Mick, Mella, JP, Mary, Rose and Kathleen; sisters Bridget (Moran), Betty (McGrath); brother John (O’Sullivan). She is sadly missed by her loving family daughters-in-law Mary, Sheila and Ailish; sons-in-law Malachy, James, Danny and John; her 25 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; nephews; nieces; relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Michael; her sisters Kathleen Dunphy (Galbally), Margaret O’Reilly (Camross), Nancy Doyle (Camross) and Jim Sullivan (Dungeer).

May she rest in peace.
